A combination of Trainers, Assistant Trainers, Racing Managers, our Bloodstock Team and our best-in-class Communications Teams will keep you updated and engaged throughout.
We use the Horse Racing Management Platform, Prism, to provide owners with a combination of written updates, photos, video, pre-race and post-race audio reports, as well as our sports science and race planning graphics. A recent survey revealed over 81% of customers gave us an 8 or higher out of 10 when asked to rate the quality of our updates.
Naturally, update frequencies will vary, but our underlying philosophy of affording our owners industry-leading information in a timely manner ensures you are equipped with detailed, up-to-date knowledge of your horse. A recent survey revealed over 85% of customers believed we provided the ‘right amount’ of updates.
We hold bi-annual open days at each of our training locations and are happy to cater for visitations throughout the year by appointment. We’re also always on the front foot in notifying owners of their horse’s forthcoming jumpouts and trials, which we welcome your attendance at.
Your horse will benefit from a best-in-class training team, with weekly tactics meetings, short—and long-term race planning, and, given our scale, the ability to be placed across multiple racing jurisdictions. This ensures we’re able to best place your horse, maximising potential prize money and taking advantage of the applicable race series and bonus schemes.
Our six-member Sports Science and Data team are on the industry frontline, cultivating international and non-racing insights in pioneering and integrating some of the industry’s most advanced training methodologies, working in partnership with our globally schooled training team to ensure your horse is thriving and capable of reaching its maximum potential.
Coupling sports science methodologies and data analytics, the team helps frame your horse’s training regime, ensuring horse welfare and affording it a competitive advantage once the floats are loaded and track-bound.
Our internally constructed database collating race data, training insights, and scheduling ensures your horse is afforded its optimal race placement, along with its integral contribution to our customer insights and general business operations in our quest to provide you with a superior racehorse ownership experience.
Typically, when your horse looks ready to head to the races, the team will reach out to each member of the ownership group via email, seeking naming submissions. All owners are invited to vote, with the ownership percentage attributed to each owner determining the weight of their vote. Once finalised, we’ll circulate to the group and submit the relevant forms to Racing Australia to register the name of the horse.
Prior to your horse reaching two years of age, we will supply owners with Racing Australia’s Registration Form. Once returned, we will facilitate the registration process, registering the horse’s name and silks. We are also on hand to help with setting up a syndicate, where required.
The colours (or ‘silks’) your horse races in will generally be decided by the managing owner, who is the owner with the highest percentage of ownership in the horse. This isn’t always the case, and we’ll be sure to seek nominations where it isn’t.
Our Bloodstock Team is available throughout your ownership journey to discuss and help implement your desired ownership strategy. Options include offering your share to the balance of the ownership group or helping you list your share on one of the regular online sales platforms (costs to do so will vary).
Naturally, members of the ownership group can request that they rehome the horse once its racing career comes to an end. Alternatively, CMR works closely with ‘Racing Hearts’, which is an organisation that offers retired racehorses a new lease on life through retraining and integration into equine-assisted therapy programs for humans. Finally, the Bloodstock Team also have an extensive rehoming register made up of breeders, current and former owners, and general supporters of the stable who have registered an interest in rehoming one of our retired racehorses.
Once you’ve confirmed your purchase with our Bloodstock Team, you’ll be issued our proforma Bloodstock Agreement, which sets out the terms and conditions as an owner with Ciaron Maher Racing. We’ll issue an initial invoice that covers the cost of the purchase, which includes a compulsory veterinary inspection, insurance, sales fee, transport, applicable race series nominations and pre-paid training fees to cover the initial stages (educating, spelling and pre-training).
From there, training fees are billed monthly, generally during the second week of each month, with a 14-day payment term. Your bill will include a daily training fee, feed and supplements, related track fees, Workcover, race day staffing, agistment, farrier work, and general maintenance of your horse.
We recommend adding ‘accounts@ciaronmaher.com.au’ to your safe senders list to prevent your bills from ending up in your junk inbox.
Billing can be addressed by bank transfer, an online payment merchant in ‘Thoroughbred Payments’ and via direct debit. Further details will be provided on your invoice.
Given our scale and the state-of-the-art systems we have implemented, your horse will be afforded the ability to be placed across multiple racing jurisdictions and to be located in training environments that best serve its mental and physical needs. At present, we utilise three training facilities in VIC and NSW, respectively, with a handful of other ancillary locations for spelling, freshen-ups and rehabilitation.
Our dedicated events team works tirelessly to ensure you feel a part of the CMR community. They organize Open Days, Charity Galas, International Racing Tours, Member Discounts with Corporate Partnerships, Personalized Merchandise, and Raceday Functions.
