Blinkers back on to get the best out of Sail; Weekend Preview

By Georgie Dennis

Just the two runners this weekend for team Maher/Eustace with our first being last start winner Black Sail on Friday night at Moonee Valley.

The Savabeel gelding will contest the final race of Manikato night, a BM84 handicap over 1500m.

He won well last start but the team have opted to put the blinkers back on him to improve his concentration and get the best out of him.

He is on good order and should run a good race.

Black Sail will be ridden by Damian Lane from barrier nine.

Our other runner this weekend is two-year-old filly Salome who contests the 1000m Inglis Banner at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate day.

The filly by the late Unencumbered went for a trip to the Valley on Tuesday morning and worked well alongside Aaron Purcell’s Substantial.

She has drawn awkwardly and being a race full of debutants, it is hard to assess but if she gets away cleanly and travels well, she should be thereabouts at the finish but will improve with racing experience.

Salome will be ridden by Michael Walker and they have drawn barrier nine also.
